He’s a reliever from the Cubs. It’s NOT the starter from the Cards if thats who you are thinking it is.
It was a compensation from the Cubs for taking Theo Epstein.

It’s another Chris Carpenter who was a reliever for the Cubs.

No, he’s in the Red Sox minor league system, not on the Sox.

Sorry for the buzz kill it is not the star Cards pitcher it is a a half ass reliever you got

yes but he came from the Cubs minor league system as a part of the Theo Epstein deal

A minor league pitching prospect who just happens to be named Chris Carpenter is now with the Red Sox minor league system. Not the star pitcher Chris Carpenter from the Cardinals.

	Yes.

Keep in mind that Chris Carpenter =/= Chris Carpenter.

my investigation reveals he is chris carpenter, JR. the son of the cardinals pitcher. Regards, Dirty Harry

Yes its true. But not that Chris your thinking of.

Not the star Chris Carpenter from the St. Louis Cardinals, a 26 year old reliever prospect from the Chicago Cubs.

Would love to see the source so I can look up other teams.

I would think Philly is there as well. But their fans are savages.

Cleavland. it’s easy to support teams when you’re winning everything. Cleavland hasn’t won anything in any sport for about 50 years. That’s dedication right there.

	Philadelphia and Boston are tied.

	New York.

Cavaliers attendance went down since LeBron left and Indians attendance has also gone down. Chicago does a great job supporting their teams whether or not they are good. I’ll take Chicago.

The Patriots are 22 miles out of Boston, they don’t count as a Boston team.

Oh and it’s Chicago, we bleed sports here. We are also more classless which is a sign of passion for sports.

And as far as football, we supported our Lions though it all

I wanted him to break the Red Sox win record, he was just 6 behind Roger Clemens and Cy Young. At least he did manage to break the innings pitched by a Red Sox record previously held by Clemens.
Will as big of a Tim Wakefield fan as I am, and he was my favorite in the game for years, Phil Neikro was the greatest knuckleballer in history not Wakefield.

Actually a little. I never liked Roger Clemens and would liked to have seen someone break a record he holds.

no because he isnt the greatest pitcher in redsox history . Cy Young and Roger Clemens are in front of him and it should be that way because tey are the 2 greatest pitchers in redsox history. But I think Wakefield is the greatest knuckle ball pither ever

The guy is great, but he’s 45 years old (or about that) his time has come. He’s not going to pick up the Ws pitching relief. But he was a great guy to have around for a long time.

What’s up with that? I know Boston is a VERY racist city but still what is the deal with that. I’m pretty sure the Celtics arent popular at all either. As far as I know its Red Sox and Bruins BY FAR 1-2 in that city and then Patriots and Celtics lacking extremely far behind….possibly due to the blackness? Not sure.

There’s no cotton to be picked in Boston.

They have Carl Crawford and David Ortiz plus I think two more non-white and not black players which makes their lineup 4/9 non white. (all I know is the lineup not the roster)

Black participation in general is down in MLB. Top black athletes have been pursuing careers in other sports like basketball and football where the path to stardom doesn’t have to take as long as baseball, what with having to come up through the minors and get established.

So it’s not just the Red Sox. And if the Sox felt like a team of all black players would get them a World Series championship, I’m sure they would go that route.

NO, but eventually hopefully we will !!!! They are strong hitters !!!

Yes, Boston is a racist city.

So that is why their team was so good until they signed that shiftless Crawford.

Don’t think it’s racist or intentional. They still have an abundance of other races on their team.

The number of African American players in MLB has been on the decline over the past several years. The 2011 average per team was 8.5% – see attached.

Red Sox have two African American players on its 25 man roster – Carl Crawfor and Darnell McDounald – which is 8.0%. So it appears the Red Sox have no more or fewer than any other MLB team. Historically, the Red Sox were the last MLB team to sign an African American player, Pumpsie Green, in 1959.

Your comparison that includes the Bruins is faulty since probably less than 1% of NHL players are African Americans.

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=6401971

They are and have always been extremely racist, unlike the Yankees, whose best hitter in 2011 – Curtis Granderson, and best pitcher – CC Sabathia, are black.

My job is transferring me to Warsaw. I am an American sports nut. I love baseball, football (NFL), basketball and hockey. All of the Boston teams, Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics and Bruins. I like cricket as well. And I like Liverpool footie and I like Edinburgh Rugby teams. What sports can I watch, and for which teams should I cheer?
For all you out there who love to complain when Americans, and certain others, call Football, Soccer, you should know that it was the British that invented the word. In the 1860s there were a lot of football sports in existence being played popularly throughout England. Many of the sports had similar rules. October 26th, 1863, a group of teams in England decided to get together and create a standard set of rules which would be used at all their matches. They formed the rules for Association Football. Association Football was then better known as Assoccer, which quickly just became Soccer.
The inventor of the nickname is said to be Charles Wredford Brown an oxford student. Friends asked him if hed come play a game of Rugger, to which he replied he preferred Soccer. The name caught on from there.

Football, which you, Americans, call “soccer” (while your american football is played mostly with hands and with something looking like an egg rather than ball ). Among other slightly less popular sports – basketball, volleyball, team handball. Also ski jumping and women cross country skiing due to Polish sportsmen who are quite good at it. But you can still watch for example ESPN in Poland via satellite.

EDIT – Yes, great. Thanks for history lesson BUT English have the things right – “soccer” is “football”. Rugby is rugby. Check this:

I just finished watching and I have to say from a guy that doesn’t like baseball or movies very much for that matter it wasn’t bad.. I just redboxed it to give a new movie a try and I honestly enjoyed it.

But at the end I was wondering how much of the story is actually true? I am coincidentally a Red Sox fan (or so I call myself) so i know we really won in 04 but did Boston really offer him 12,500,000?! and he turned it down to play in Oakland?

and did that team really win 20 straight??? I found that to be the most seemingly fictional part about it. Everything else was pretty believable.

Exaggerated I am told, look on Wiki

Of course those things happened, this is a true story. The only things that are made for the movie are the interaction between actors. The history of the movie is all true. They lost to the Yankees in the first playoff. Then they lost to the Twins in the foloowing year. Yes they did win 20 in a row. And the money offered by Boston is true. All the trades happened in real life.

	Moneyball is fake. The a’s were successful because;

Migeul tejada (not mentioned in movie, won 2002 MVP)

Tim Hudson
Mark mulder
Barry zito (3 of best pitchers in MLB at the time, not mentioned in movie)

Art Howe :demonized in movie for choosing to play Carlos Pena (very good defensive player with extremely good power) over Scott hatteberg (sh!tty player who is out of the league)

Weak division (Texas finished in last place, angels were alright in 2001, however they did win it all in 2002, and seattle just sucks)

The a’s haven’t made the playoffs since 2006. Billy beane was rewarded with a 19 year extension. The a’s payroll in 2011 was 66 million, which surpassed the Tamba Bay Rays payroll by 20 million dollars.

	FUUUU go yanks.

Thoughts? no idea what the hell your talking about

So basically the Red Sox are taking the NHL approach to the game this season? So they will “win” all the bench-clearing brawls, but as far as actual games are concerned, the scoreboard won’t be in their favor more than 85 games.

If I were a Red Sox fan I’d be embarrassed of you.

lmfao!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE BOSTON RED COCKS, FAGGOT, WILL CHOKE AGAIN,AND IN FACT WILL GET BEJESUS BEAT OUT OF THEM BY YANKEES IN 55-107 SEASON, YOU SISSY ASS FAGGOT! GONNA REPORT ME NOW, COWARD? WAHH! GO CRY TO MOMMY, YOU DICKLICKING RED COCKS FAG! BOSTON PEOPLE SUCK DICK AND DO DRUGS! LOL

You are NOT a smart guy like me! The Roid $ux have no starting pitching, do the drug$, and suck too much! Why don’t you quit doing the drug$ and become a smart guy like me and have YANkEES PRIDE!
Go Yanks!

Not with CC, Pineda, and Nova anchoring the Yankee rotation. Keep dreaming.

Sounds like Spring Training is right around the corner. Everyone can have high hopes in the Spring but reality sets in come April. The Sox could compete but they’re hardly WS contenders.

The Red Sox have a great team again this year. Buchholz will be healthy and the Red Sox will have Beckett, Lester, Buchholz, and Bard starting. That is a pretty good starting rotation. They also have maybe the best line up in baseball. Yes, they will beat the bejesus out of the other teams in MLB this year.

The only good thing happening for the Sox lately is John Lackey missing the whole season. I never thought losing a player to injury would be a good thing.

I think you’ve been hitting the sam addams too hard.

Red Sux fans..i have a bridge to sell you guys..As long as nut head Valentine dosen’t allow take out delivery and beer and vodka in the sux bullpen ,maybe just maybe they may be above the orioles..just maybe..lmaorotf,..In the movie the town they even robbed fenway park..funny chit ..

	Hopefully them and the Twins.

I love your humor. Thanks for the points.

I bet u were saying the same thing last year too, the sox hav no pitching and that’s gonna hurt against the new offensive renovations made by AL teams this off season,I’m really rooting for em against the Yanks though

Kinda like how they were supposed to do that last year as well?

The Red Sox have missed the playoffs two years in a row, they haven’t done much to upgrade the team and have lost pieces, they will most likely finish in third place in the division behind the Yankees and Rays. This is a totally different Red Sox team than the one from 2003-2008 and they aren’t guaranteed anything. I’m tired of Red Sox fans like yourself you make the real fans look bad.
